👥 Groups (XDC Groups Mod)

XDC Groups is our own custom squad mod. It lets you form a persistent group with friends, see each other in the world and on the map, manage ranks, and check how your squad is doing on an in-game leaderboard. Everything is done through one menu — no items to craft, no bases to build.

Opening the menu

Press O (the default key) to open the Groups menu. Like every XDC hotkey it's rebindable — if O clashes with something, change it in the game's Controls settings under the XDC category. From this menu you do everything: create or leave a group, invite and manage members, set your marker colours, and open the group leaderboard and instructions.

There's a full Instructions panel inside the menu that lists the ranks, the invite steps, your group's size limit, and the equipment key — handy to check in-game.

Ranks

Groups have five ranks. Higher ranks can manage the ranks below them:

  • Owner — full control: promote, demote, kick, and transfer ownership. There's one owner per group.
  • Officer — can invite, promote and demote members below them, and kick.
  • Member — a trusted, established member of the group.
  • Recruit — a newer member.
  • New — the temporary rank. New members are automatically removed on the next server restart, so it's the way to add someone just for a session — a friend tagging along, a temporary ally — without permanently adding them to the group. If you want to keep them, promote them to Recruit or above before the next restart and they'll stick.

Seeing your teammates

There are two separate ways to see your group, and each is unlocked by different gear:

  • 3D pins float over your teammates' heads in the world. These depend on the gear you're wearing and only show teammates within range (see the tiers below).
  • Map markers show your teammates' positions on the map, everywhere on the server (no range limit). These need a powered Personal Radio or GPS Receiver.

So headgear shows you nearby teammates in the world; a radio/GPS shows the whole squad on the map. Two different tools for two different jobs.

3D pin gear tiers

The range you can see a teammate's overhead pin depends on the kit you're wearing. Better kit = further range. Only the single highest tier you qualify for applies (they don't stack on top of each other):

RangeGear you're wearingLine of sight?
150 mTactical goggles OR active NVGYes — blocked by walls
250 mHeadphones / comms helmetSees through walls
300 mActive NVG + Tarsier boosterYes — blocked by walls
400 mHeadphones + goggles/NVGSees through walls
500 mHeadphones + battery packSees through walls
550 mNVG + Tarsier + headphonesSees through walls
650 mHeadphones + battery + goggles/NVGSees through walls
800 mNVG + Tarsier + headphones + batterySees through walls

What counts as each item:

  • Goggles — Tactical Goggles, Ballistic Goggles, the Gorka Helmet Visor (attached to a Gorka Helmet), or the Altyn Helmet.
  • Comms ("headphones") — Comtac III headphones or headset, or any Tactical, Tanker, or Pilot Helmet with a built-in headset (e.g. Tactical Helmet - USA, Tactical Helmet - Skull, the Tanker Helmet variants, or the ZSh-3 Pilot Helmet). Wearing one of those helmets counts as comms on its own.
  • NVG — night-vision goggles, switched on. A Tarsier booster attaches to them for the longer NVG tiers.
  • Battery — a battery pack.

A few things to know:

  • Each type of gear counts once — range comes from combining different types (comms + goggles + battery), never from doubling up. Wearing a comms helmet and a separate headset gives you no extra range; it's already maxed.
  • No qualifying gear = no 3D pins at all — there's no free "always on" range. You have to wear something.
  • Ruined gear doesn't count — a ruined item gives you nothing; repair or replace it.
  • NVGs only count when switched on (lowered and powered); attached-but-off does nothing.
  • The 150 m and 300 m goggle/NVG tiers are line-of-sight — the pin hides behind walls and terrain. Every headphone tier sees through walls.
  • The exact tiers can be tuned by admins, but the above are the current defaults.

Map markers & hiding yourself

Carry a powered Personal Radio or a GPS Receiver and your teammates appear on your map wherever they are on the server. It's the squad's shared situational picture.

If you'd rather stay off your team's radar — for a solo scouting run, say — there's a "Hide me from team" toggle in the menu. While it's on you're completely invisible to your group: no map marker and no overhead 3D pin, even to a teammate standing right next to you with the right gear. It's a full "go dark" switch, not just a map toggle.

Marker colours

You can recolour how your group shows up, from the Customise Colours menu:

  • Team colour — set one colour for the whole group (the default is green).
  • Per-member colours — override individual teammates with their own colour, so you can tell people apart at a glance.
  • Colour-blind mode — a toggle that remaps the palette to colour-blind-friendly hues. What you see in the swatch is exactly what the marker becomes.

All of this is a personal, client-side preference — it only changes what you see, and it's saved between sessions.

Group leaderboard

The menu has a built-in group leaderboard so you can see how your squad is performing without leaving the game. Members are shown with their score, kills, K/D and deaths, and you can sort by rank, kills, K/D or score. There's also a fuller overlay with wolf and bear kills.

Supporters additionally see an ELO (skill rating) column on the group board — one of the small perks of supporting the servers (see the Account guide). The in-game figures come from the same stats system that powers the website leaderboards.

Good to know

  • Cinematic / HUD-hidden mode (the tilde ~ HUD toggle) hides the 3D pins too, so your screenshots and cinematics stay clean.
  • Groups persist across restarts (except un-promoted brand-new members, as noted under Ranks).
  • Groups are per-map. If you travel to another map with the Map Link (e.g. Chernarus → Sakhal), your group doesn't come with you — you'll need to set up a new group on that map.
  • Everything here is client-friendly: no crafting, no upkeep — just the menu on O.
